Weather Update 18 September: Heavy Rain Alert Across 16 States as Gujarat Faces Flooding

Heavy rainfall was also recorded in Assam, Meghalaya, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. According to the weather department, Dungarpur in Rajasthan recorded the highest rainfall in the country on Friday at 200 mm. Alipurduar in Sikkim recorded 160.6 mm, Kalimpong received 143 mm, while Udaipur in Rajasthan recorded 135 mm of rainfall.

The IMD has issued alerts for heavy rain in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Bihar and West Bengal, among 16 states. Winds may reach speeds of up to 70 kmph during the period.

In Gujarat, a red alert has been issued for Aravalli, Banaskantha, Mehsana, Patan and Sabarkantha. An orange alert has been issued for Ahmedabad, Dahod, Gandhinagar, Kutch, Kheda, Mahisagar, Morbi, Panchmahal and Surendranagar in Gujarat, as well as Mandsaur, Neemuch and Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh. The weather department has advised people in affected areas to remain alert and take necessary precautionary measures.

Gujarat witnessed widespread rainfall after the weather system became active again across the state. Rainfall was recorded in 105 tehsils from the morning, with 14 tehsils receiving more than one inch of rain. Meghraj in Aravalli recorded the highest rainfall at 2.56 inches, followed by Modasa at 2.09 inches, Wankaner at 1.97 inches, Khanpur at 1.93 inches and Talod at 1.89 inches.

Ahmedabad experienced torrential rain from the morning. An average of 2 to 2.5 inches of rain fell across the city in just two hours, while some areas received between 3 and 4 inches. The intense rainfall left low-lying areas completely inundated. Roads began resembling rivers as large volumes of water accumulated within a short period, leaving Ahmedabad residents facing severe waterlogging for the second time in three days.

With heavy rainfall affecting multiple states and intense downpours causing waterlogging in Gujarat, authorities have advised people in affected areas to remain cautious and take necessary precautions as the weather system continues to bring significant rainfall.
